So scrap that last post! I've been adjusting to my new life and completely forgot to blog! I have started crafting again, all thanks to my first belly dance performance in 3 years! I'll try to put some of the items and maybe a video up soon!
In other news, we finally fully furnished our apartment. It looks great, well minus the disaster that I created while making my costume.

New Life
So I finished grad school about a month ago and moved back to Vancouver. I'm starting my new job Monday and my apartment is still a mess!
With the new year, a new life and a new job, everything is very uncertain right now, but my goal is to post at least 1 post a week starting February. So stay tuned!

I'm so excited that I have to post some pictures. I've been trying to grow plants on my windowsill for a few months now. The basil is doing great; the chives look a little weird and I've already pulled out the parsley. I've been waiting on the strawberries, but only one lone plant spouted and now it has a bud!
Basil and some weird looking chives.
More basil and the lone strawberry plant.
The beginnings of a strawberry!

Cards
It's been so long since I've had time to make anything. I've been busy with school and practicums. I had to send thank you cards for a few observations I did and I took the opportunity to pull out the stamps and glue gun!

Materials: cloth flower, clear stamps, rub transfer, felt, coloured paper

Materials: Cloth flowers, coloured paper, sticker

Materials: Stickers, rub transfers
I tried a few techniques and styles. I think they turned out pretty well!

Past ideas
When I first moved into my apartment in September, I was not in the mood to start school. So instead, I decorated the apartment, cooked and pretty much did anything, but study. Here are a few of the things I accomplished:
My attempt at a toque turned out pretty good. It's warm, so I wear it occasionally.
First I made some picture/bullentin boards for my room:
They are made of fabric, cotton batting, cork board, leather cord, and upholestry tacks. In the end, I used them as picture boards.
Inspiration: Something similar in a catalog or online.
Improvements for next time: Longer tacks or something to bend them to make sure they stay put and not poke anyone.

Then I had still crazy craving for sushi and since I had just come back from Vancouver, Chicago sushi was not looking appealing. So I made my own:
Ingredients included: imitation crab meat, avocado, cucumber, yam and carrot tempura and mushrooms for my roommate. It tasted pretty good, but I need to improve my rice cooking skills. The rice turned out on the mushy side.
Inspiration: Hunger
Improvements for next time: Less water in the rice

Lastly, in anticipation for the cold, I started knitting again.

This turned out to be a better idea in theory because it was like 15 C out on Halloween. I was sweating the whole night. I made an orange tube dress, used pipe cleaners to make a halter and vine to run down my arm.
Inspiration: The pumpkin headband
Improvements for next time: Check the weather
